Installing and testing four different restraint systems.
In order to ensure the accuracy of the test, each system was
installed for two weeks on the same vehicle. The same driver was tested while
securing the same passengers. Prior to the test the driver received training on
the particular device and was given one week to become familiar with the system.
A specific Securement Device Survey was developed for the operator to fill out.
A different questionnaire was used for the passenger to respond to.
The
"Operator information Survey" included:
1. Length of time to secure the
wheelchair. 2. Driver ease of securement. 3. Stability of the securement
device. 4. Driver's opinion of the restraint system.
The "Passenger
Information Survey" included:
1. How comfortable is the Lap Belt? 2.
How comfortable is the Shoulder Restraint? 3. How secure do you feel in the
restraint system? 4. Passenger's opinion of the securement device.
